Working
with the symbolic imagery of water + earth through dance movement
and meditations
Introduction
You don't have to be a dancer or a great mover to practice
and enjoy free-form dance and movement meditation. Free-form
meditation can be expressed in a variety of ways including
movement, and as it is a special activity, different from
the ordinary and daily routines, it can become a personal
spiritual experience.
Movement meditation can liberate the body and mind from stress,
fatigue, depression, worry or any other unnecessary burden
that may be blocking your ability to feel free and optimistic.
It can also help you develop a positive outlook and a happier
and stronger body and mind.
During movement meditation you shift your entire attention
to your body. Allowing your body to do 'the talking' whilst
your mind is being silenced or emptied. The body does not
speak in a verbal language but expresses itself through physical
movements that create forms, shapes and rhythms in space.
When you move and shift your attention to your body your mind
can still interrupt with the usual trains of thoughts and
constant reminders. Brush your thoughts away by re-focusing
on your movements, breathing, and the music at the background.
Let the movements that flow naturally from your body to become
your mantra and the subject of your meditation.
Try to simply move to the beat of your favourite music and
you will notice that you very rarely think about your movements
because you are enjoying the aural and physical sensation.
This very simple example demonstrates the very foundation
of free-form dance/movement meditation. All your need is to
choose the music that matches your mood and some time and
space to practice.
Always move with freedom, intuitively travelling from one
position to another, allowing your body and soul to lead you
to the best of your physical ability.
Movement + Image
This meditation method is based on the combination of two
activities i.e. pure movement and visualisation. The two activities
are inter-linked because they are both non-verbal but visual
and physical in essence.
The meditative process involves both movement and visualisation
so that simultaneously the mind and body are occupied with
a specially-chosen image, which inspires the movement of the
body, awakes positive emotions and keeps the straying mind
on track, as it always returns to the visualised image as
a point of origin and focus.
Moving with a symbolic image and a visual theme in mind can
become an empowering experience especially if the chosen symbol
can contribute to self-development, inner knowledge, and an
increase in physical, mental and emotional confidence and
stamina.
In this combined movement + image meditation self-knowledge
is discovered both in the body and mind, and a connection
between the body, mind and soul is made through symbolic images.
The Blue Planet's programmes, including classes and workshops
by Lila Moore provide you with movement/image meditations
that can empower your physical and emotional being, and strengthen
your ability to deal with the pressures and challenges of
everyday life, wherever you are and whatever your situation
may be.
Movement/image meditation is a positive form of self-expression
and a natural activity that can promote a healthy and happy
way of life.
